Kamal Founder
Executive Chairman/Trustee

BA (Hons) Monash, MA, PhD. Penn,  D.Litt (Hon), Dundee; D.Laws, honoris causa, Dalhousie; D.Science (Hon), Thomas Jefferson; D.Science (Hon), Strathclyde; PKT, KMN, JMN, DMPN, PSM.

He graduated with B.A. (Hons) (Monash) and PhD (University Pennsylvania, 1973). Served Universiti Sains Malaysia as Dean and  Vice Chancellor (Akademic). He was Founding Executive Director of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (“MIER”) (1986-1994). Served as Executive Chairman of Tenggara Oil Berhad since March 1994 until he retired in 2006, Director Bank Bumiputra (M) Berhad (1985 – 1990), Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (“CIMA”) (1985 – 1989), Malaysian Industrial Development Authority, National Productivity Council and the Rapporteur-General of National Economic Consultative Council (1989 – 1991).  He was also funder of the first private medical college in Malaysia (1992) known as the International Medical University (IMU) and remained its Chairman until 2004. He established the World Enterprise Institute (2000) as a policy research and development management think tank. He was elected Member of Parliament Wangsa Maju (1995 – 1999). In 1996 he established and remains Chairman of Yayasan Wangsa Maju now known as Yayasan Mahkota until now.




Graduated with B.Sc(Hons) from University of Malaya, as well as Masters and PhD from University of Aberdeen. Holds Hononary Doctorate from University of Portsmouth and University of Loughborough. Former Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Former Chairman of Senstech Sdn Bhd. Former Chairman of CTRM. Former Chairman of Malaysian Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Sdn. Bhd.  Former Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.




He graduated with B.Sc(Hons) (Leeds 1976) and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering (Leeds 1980). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a Chartered Engineer (UK). Served Universiti Malaya (1981-1989), SIRIM as Visiting Scientist (1987), Petronas as Senior Manager Petroleum Product Development (1990-93), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as Adjunct Professor (1995-98), Open University Malaysia as Member of Board of Governors, Universiti Teknologi Petronas as Academic Advisor and Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) as Founder Chairman (2000-Mac2006), University of Management  Namibia as Advisor, Solar Energy Research Institute Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as Senior Fellow and Expert in renewable energy technologies (ISESCO-OIC). He has extensive experience in renewable energy technologies; manufacturing of pressure vessels, power plant boilers and steam generators, power plant technologies; engineering design, project management and consultancies (HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd); municipal waste management, hazardous and hospital management. Advisor Metropolitan Bank Zimbabwe for the acquisition and transformation of the Small Business Credit Guarantee Trust (SBCGT) Namibia  into a fully licensed commercial bank (2007). Developing an Independent Power Plant coal fired 2×300 MWe at Kuala Tanjung, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia.  President Yayasan Mahkota.

He graduated with MBA (Finance) from the USA. He specializes in high finance and has extensive experience in Financial Management.  He has served as Advisor to many third world governments and their agencies, and high net worth individuals.

Vice President

MAHANI AWANG is the Founder and Managing Director of MSP Communications Sdn.Bhd.  She is no stranger in the Media Industry. She has 20 years experience in journalism and has been involved in various types of local and international events.  She started her career as a journalist right after SPM with Berita Publishing, a subsidiary of The News Straits Times and sat for her HSC while working. After   graduating in Creative Writing from Universiti Sains Malaysia she established her journalism profession in Jelita Magazine, Berita Harian, RIAS Magazine, and she became the Editor of WANITA Magazine. Mahani is still active in writing and currently is a columnist with KOSMO newspaper. Her love for fashion inspired her to form the Bumiputra Designer Association (BDA) to bringBumiputra designers at par with other designers.  She also had helped establish the International Women Heritage Vision (WARISTA), of which she is now the Secretary-General,  in aid of women and children’s welfare.


Executive Director, Social and Culture

NISRIWANI YAHAYA is the Executive Director of Yayasan Mahkota since 2004. She has 15 years experience and versatility in Public Relations and Event Management as well multimedia projects. Her experience includes development of project proposals, project/event management, liaison with related Government agencies, Ambassadors, Royalties, media and sponsors. Her event management experience includes product launches, press conferences, Royal events, trade expo, fashion shows and other social cultural activities. Nisriwani has good interest in arts, history and culture. She is the co-author of a book entitled, 101 Puteri Dunia Melayu-Sejarah dan Lagenda (published by Department of Museums Malaysia). Nisriwani is Yayasan Mahkota’s representative for the establishment and development of the Bumiputra Designers Association (BDA) for the fashion industry in Malaysia since year 2006.



Executive Director, Education

KAHLIL ANWAR KAMAL.   After reading mathematics and management at Imperial College, he began his career as Project Manager of Virtual Medical University (VMU) Project at the International Medical University (IMU). In 2002, he was appointed Chief Knowledge Officer and a member of the Academic Council, Senate as well as the Executive Committee (EXCO) of IMU. He left IMU in 2004 to start the KLEC Project under his private holding company, KLEC Ventures Sdn Bhd. The  projects he is supervising under the KLEC includes the Epsom College Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Executive Education Center in collaboration with Judge Business School, Cambridge University, and the proposed Asia College of Liberal Arts and Science.



Executive Director, Health

DR. DIANA ZAIREEN holds an Mb BCh BAO from Queen’s University of Belfast, United Kingdom.  After graduation she worked as a houseman in Scotland.  Upon returning home she worked in UKM Medical Centre from 1998 to 2008 in the field of Family Medicine, Palliative Care and Emergency Medicine.  Subsequently she was attached to MERCY Malaysia as Head of its Health Department for 4 years.  Then she set up Diana Zaireen Network as a training company.  She is currently the Founder and Chairman of Doctors with Conscience Forum and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Manja Medical Group™.  She is also the recently elected Vice President of the Queen’s University Alumni Association Malaysia (QUAAM).
